From four years on the ground in China to 20+ years in US financial services — a career shaped by real markets, rigorous training, and a genuine curiosity about how the world works.

  • 1995–99Sales Manager — P&G China. Four years in Beijing building commercial instincts and a communication style that has lasted a lifetime.
  • 1999–01Cornell MBA. Strategic and analytical foundations, with a summer internship at Bain & Company (Hong Kong, 2000) and a year at Accenture (US, 2001) — two firms that further shaped my thinking on corporate strategies.
  • 2003–Financial Services, US. Over two decades in investment research and portfolio management. CFA charterholder since 2008.
  • 2016–24Multi-Family Office. Final chapter in institutional finance — managing ~$300M in investment portfolios for two principal client families.

A different kind of second act

The foundation was laid in China. Four years as a Sales Manager for Procter & Gamble in Beijing — before most Western firms had figured out how to operate there — instilled a discipline of clear communication, ground-level market instincts, and an enduring respect for execution. P&G's influence on the way ideas are communicated here is deliberate and acknowledged.

Coming to the US in 1999 for an MBA at Cornell brought rigorous analytical training and exposure to the strategic frameworks of Bain & Company and Accenture. Those experiences sharpened the thinking. The career that followed was built in finance: entering the industry in 2003, earning the CFA in 2008, and ultimately spending the final eight years managing investment portfolios at a US multi-family office — overseeing roughly $300 million on behalf of two principal families.

“It is time to do what I deeply care about: research on opportunities that will change the world, and inspire young minds whenever I can.”

Why now, why this

Retirement from institutional finance is a reorientation, not a retreat. The four research areas at Sage Hall Research are not arbitrary — they are the questions that occupied the back of the mind through decades of investment work: the US–China relationship, the meaning of AI, the future of money, and how a young person builds a career through all of it. Now there is the freedom and the time to pursue those questions seriously.

Working with the next generation

A particular focus is on talented high school students thinking seriously about their futures — helping them approach college planning and the years beyond with genuine strategy rather than anxiety. This is not test-prep or résumé polishing. It is about helping a young person understand the world they are entering and make decisions they will be proud of.

  • Independent analysis — never shaped by commercial or institutional interests
  • Cross-disciplinary perspective built across consulting, finance, and global markets
  • Deep China fluency grounded in years of living and working there
  • A P&G-trained commitment to clear, direct, honest communication

Sage Hall Research focuses on four interconnected areas where the pace of change is highest — and where rigorous, independent analysis creates the most value.
